Paris Landing and Work Conference

Image
For the last three years our unit at work has taken its annual conference to Paris Landing State Park, in Tennessee.   Just for the record, I was not driving.... This pic was taken as we headed up over the bridge to Paris Landing.     The  entrance.   And the view from the conference room! Tennessee had a beautiful fall this year. Not only in colors but the fact that it hung around for weeks.   This shot was taken the first week of November.     The Inn at Paris Landing over looks the Tennessee River,     So pretty.     Colors, colors, and more color...I love it.       Looking through the trees to the water.     The next morning....sunrise! A couple of years ago I got some really fantastic shots of the sun coming up but there was to much fog for getting a great picture this year.     Another ...

Taking Care of Mommy

Image
I had shoulder surgery in August, it put me down in a sling for 4 weeks.   I had to sleep in a recliner for the first 4 weeks. My mom kept me at her house for the 1st week taking care of me. Since he recliner is in her room, she moved to the guest room. But....Dakota stayed with his mom. He knew something was not right. He would either sleep on my leg in the recliner or on Mom's bed, facing me.     After I went home, Dakota slept in the recliner with me most of the time for the next 3 weeks. But during the day, if I moved from one chair to the other, or to the sofa, he had to move also. He had to be right there, almost on top of me every step of the way.   Saw my doc that 4th week, I was able to remove the sling. Right after getting home, Dakota continued to move about with me for the first day but after that he started staying on the sofa if I got in the chair or the other way around. I did not notice right...

The Christmas Deer

Image
The story goes on! If you have missed the other four stories of Dakota, my dog, then you might want to jump back a few post and see what life with this guy is like... One December a couple of years ago it messy. Right before Christmas we had a couple of days of steady rain. Dakota don't like getting wet and what is worse is that he don't like getting his feet wet. So getting him to go out during those times is hard. But apparently it got to be more then he could hold! I got him out the door and he hugged the porch around to the front of the house, then he darted out to get under the large tree in the front yard. Dakota has to smell every piece of grass around before going to the bathroom, and even in the rain he was smelling away.....only to not be able to find the right spot. He darted out from under the tree straight to my Christmas deer. You know the kind, the ones that are covered in lights.... For some reaso...

Waking

Image
If you have been reading about Dakota in the last few post then you have had a couple of good laughs! He is something for sure. Dakota sleeps with me on the other side of the bed, under the cover, down at the bottom.   It's an arrangement that works just fine for us, I don’t kick him and he is not so close that I can't turn over. One morning right after I got him we both woke about the same time. I laid there for a minute but Dakota started out from under the cover. He was right up next to me at this time and before I knew it, as he tried to crawl out, he crawled right up the back of the inside of my gown. I started laughing and trying to tell him he could not get out that way. He was not backing up, and he kept trying to come out the way. All I could do was sat up on the edge of the bed and as I stood slowly, I had to wiggle him out of the gown….. Like I said, he has me laughing a lot. Thanks for stopping in, Pam

The Adventure Begins

Image
I have done the last two post on my dog Dakota, AKA The KING, AKA His Highness so I thought I would continue with that theme in the way of telling you stories about this dog. I for one have never been around a dog like him before. It has been an experience for sure. My daughter had gotten Dakota as a puppy for my grandson Caleb. She had in her mind that he needed a dog but at that age, Caleb was not interested in a dog so he did what all boys do…….chased him and scared him! Six months after getting the dog Amber moved and could not take him with her. This is what I heard, "mom can you keep him for a few days till we find him a home"…LOL…. They never tried but I did. Problem was, this little Rat Terrier had wormed his way into my heart and every time I found someone that might want him, I found something wrong with them. He came to live with me in August and finally by January the next year, I admitted he was mine. All the time up to that point I kept saying, "I ...

The GRUNT

Image
Now doesn't he look like he is full of himself? Like he is THE KING?   If you have not read the last post you might want to jump back and read that.   This is Dakota, AKA The KING. In his mind anyway..   About 2 years ago I noticed that Dakota was getting "vocal".....He would make this low whin sound deep in his throat when he wanted my attention.   But lately that has turned to a grunt. Yes, my dog grunts like a pig. I really started to notice it if I am not moving fast enough for him, like when I am unlocking the door to go inside after being somewhere. He is usually with me and he stands by me, and grunts!   Usually when he sees me getting ready to go somewhere he gets excited, his middle name should be "GO".. But yesterday I was getting ready to go off and he gets all excited dancing around. I went to put my shoes on and told him he had to "stay". He lowered his head and went upstairs. But......

Heat or No Heat

Image
Last Sunday I got up and the inside of the house was 68 degrees.....I was loving it. I wait to turn my heat on at the last min. and with that I even shut the vent going into my bedroom cause I like it cool. Well Sunday like I said, it felt good to me. I was in another room when Dakota AKA THE KING walked into the room I was in, yes HIS HIGHNESS came to me, looked up and proceeded to shiver from nose to the tip of his tail. Guess it was time for heat. I cut it on long enough to knock the chill out but then it went off again. Silly KING! Thanks for stopping in, Pam and THE KING!
