Minnie, The Differences, Misty, New Craft, House, Granny and Granddaddy
HOWDY!!
I know I have touched on this before but,
20 to 25 mins down the road from me,
in the county seat of Hickman County,
Centerville.
Those who know of Sarah Cannon also
knows that she was the famous and
funny woman known as Minnie
Pearl.
If you know who Minnie was, you also need
to know that she was from Centerville Tn.
The reason I brought this up is because, I typed
out the word HOWDY and that made me
think of her. That was how she
greeted everyone from the stage,
loudly and as the word rolled off her
tongue, it got more high pitched at
the end.
As you enter Centerville there is a ridge of
rocks right before you cross over
the bridge there is a statue of Minnie.
Over a year ago during a
storm, that statue got blown off
the spot where it sat.
Just recently, a week or so ago,
Minnie was repaired and placed back
in her spot upon the ridge.
Two days ago I posted about the jams
I bought at the Amish store, this post
lead me to wonder what was the difference
between jellies, jams and preserves, so you know
I went to Google.
This is what I found.
Jelly is made from fruit juice and is smooth,
jam is made from crushed fruit and is spreadable
with small fruit pieces, and preserves contain
larger chunks of fruit in a syrup or gel.
Now I know and if you did not know,
you know now.
In the evenings this girl likes
being near her mom.
But now her and Lily are out on the
deck at 12:15 am, Monday morning.
Oh my, like I needed something else
to do. I have taught myself to do
some soldering.
Now that I know, not sure what
I will do with it.
In the past I have shared my mom's home, my
childhood home with you. I also shared my
great grandmas home and the home where my
mom grew up. This pic below is my
granddaddy and grandmas house.
I had to send out a request to my
two living aunts, my uncle and all
my cousins to see if anyone had a pic
of this house. My aunt went through pics
and found this one.
This pic was taken by my cousin, years
ago when both my granny and granddaddy
was gone. It was bought by a shipping company
and that is their mess stored on the porch.
I want to do a watercolor of this
house to hang with the one I had
done of moms house. I hope to also do
one of my great grandmas home.
Last night I started to sketch this house
out but realized that it might be best to
put on the projector and draw it off.
As I blew it up and saw the damage to
the house it brought tears to my eyes.
One the front of that porch is where
my cousin Kathy and I sat in one of those
old fashion metal gliders playing a game
we made up. If I was on the right I counted
the cars from the right, Kathy got the
left. At the end of a certain amount of time,
the one with the most cars won.
This is the same porch I sat on alone
with Lady and Laddie, my grandmas
dogs. Inside that house behind that window
by the porch steps is where as kids, us cousins
jumped from one bed to the other. This is
where my uncle Paul broke out a
tooth when he fell off the bed. My uncle is
only a yr older than me.
This is also the house where in the backyard
my granddaddy had his worm beds where
he sold fishing worms. Where my granny
burned her trash and this is also the house
where in the backyard, my granddaddy had
his old car brought back to after a wreck.
My uncle, me, my brothers and a few
cousins, flipped that car on its side,
poked a hole in the tank and drained the
gas. Then we took that gas and
made a line from the car to the
barn and lite a match.
That is also the same backyard that
after the fire company left we
got our ass torn off of us.
This is the house that we had
some amazing Sunday dinners at when
we went to visit. And this is the house
where I learned to LOVE the sound of
the slamming screen door.
And so much more to love about this
place.
My granny. She left us after yrs
of Alzheimers. I was 28 and
pregnant with my son.
This man is the one that took me
and my cousins to the drive in
movies the day after the movie to
clean the lot. He is the one that would
come in after running the reels at the
drive in, late at night and sat down
in the kitchen to eat the
dinner granny put back for him.
I usually slept on the couch in
the den next to the kitchen, I
would wake when he came in.
I would go and sit with him while
he ate and he would sing,
"hey, hey, good looking, what you
got cookin to me"?
Funny how all these years later,
I can still miss them.
Thank you for going down
memory lane with me,
Pam
