Garden Tour, Running into Someone I Know, Cute Frog, Deer Stand and The Ladies
I posted this posted
and then I saw this that
I wanted to share with you..
An EXTREME HEAT WARNING has been issued for all areas under the PINK color from 11 AM on Monday through 8 PM on Thursday. This means temperatures in the upper 90s will FEEL as hot as 110 degrees.
Areas under the RED color towards the west is under an EXTREME HEAT WATCH in effect starting on Wednesday morning through Thursday evening. This is where heat index values could be up to 111 degrees.
Please limit your time outdoors during peak heat (11 AM - 8 PM), remember to hydrate, dress in light colors and check on children, pets and elderly.
On Saturday I went on a garden tour.
I have to admit that this is not something I
have never done before.
It was fun to hang with
my cousin in law, and her friend,
I enjoyed a couple of the places
we stopped and was knocked back in
a couple. Some were amazing, others,
I am not sure how they were on the
list. Maybe there was a shortage
of folks participating.
The first place...
AMAZING.
The dry flower basket was so cute.
Check out these Coneflowers..
I really like coneflowers
A paler version of the coneflower.
I just love the way the pedals drop
down.
I was amazed at the combo
of different plants that were out in
that flowerbed. What I liked also,
is the colors were all mixed together,
not all pinks here, purples there...etc.
Loved that.
This is Kriste, my friend, my
ex cousin in law.
I saw these all over the tour,
size of dinner plates.
Buds all tight getting ready
to let go and pop out in bloom.
Zinnia.
Hard to catch this
pale apricot color,
but stunning.
Coneflowers again.
Lily.
Such a cool flower.
This garden was in a circle,
and on one side, it opened up on
one side, closer to the front of
the house, with stones so you could
step into the center where you
were met with this.
There was also a adult table
and chairs, which would be a great
place for morning coffee.
Flowers are so cool, the tiny pieces
that pull such a beautiful bloom together.
Course, you know I was drawn
to the purples.
This was placed in the garden
which to me was cool.
I love the pops of color of
the flowers but the pops
of the unexpected like this
stain glass piece makes a garden
so special.
You know I love flowers, however, roses
are not my favorite. The smell reminds me
of a funeral home.
I know, crazy.
But I can't resist the tight,
coiled bud even of a rose.
Along the back of the house, along the
fence, they had veggies mixed
along with flowers.
Black topped tomatoes,
not sure of the name but they
look cool.
Blackberries.
I was told by Patty, Kriste's friend
that these were called straw flowers.
STUNNING.
These do look dead, but they
hang like this and the dark
purple looks somewhat brown.
These next pics were taken at the
volunteer garden at the YMCA.
Not impressed at all but it's a good
thought.
This is a bean plant, with
the cutest little blooms.
These blooms turn into long
purple beans. We were allowed to
pop a bean off and taste it.
It was pretty good.
A shrimp bush. I had one
before but I found that these
are hard to grow in this climate, at
least for me.
The next pics were a small home in
the historical area of town.
I really expected a great garden
here, nope.
A few plants out front along
the sidewalk in front.
But as I walked up to the
house I walked under a
HUGE tree with a swing.
What a peaceful inviting spot
to want to sit and swing.
Some of their flowers.
These look like velvet.
Basically, that was it for the
front. The garden in the back
was made up of veggies.
The colors here caught
my attention.
Funny thing is, I was not in my
county, I was not even in a county
I ever lived in. An hour plus from me
and as I walked around the garden of
that sparse home I heard my name.
I looked across the raised veggie
beds to see this young woman.
At first I was not sure who
was calling out to me in an
area I don't live, but it
was Hilary, the pretty daughter,
of a good friend, Cindy.
Cindy and I worked at the
TBI together and she is one
of the three amigos or according
to Cindy, one of my partners in crime.
I am telling you,
this world is getting smaller and
smaller.
Next stop was great
place, an actual greenhouse.
Sales to Lowes.
This place was cool cause
it has labels to tell you what
plant is what.
Succulents, however, this one had
no label. How cool is that, with the
red flowering growing in the center?
OH, the colors!
Rose of Sharon Bush.
Such soft and fragile blooms.
They blow so nicely in the
wind. I have had this bush before
and now I have a piece rooting
in water. Most things are not rootable
like that, but I read that Sharon
works that way. Kriste let me pull at
branch off her bush. Hoping it works.
Not had a lot of luck with
bushes out here in this soil. I managed to
get my red velvet crepe myrtle to live.
When I bought it there were actually,
two in the pot. The second one is
hanging on, looks like its growth
has been stumped. Hydrangeas are
not getting it. I have planted three, one
is barely making it, TINY and its
growth looks to be stumped also.
But with that said, I have a forsythia
bush growing GREAT, in a pot. This fall
I will need to move it to the yard.
I also have, in another pot a
crepe myrtle grown from seed, two
maple trees and a red bud. I am thinking
since they are doing well, when I dig holes
for trees and bushes, I will need to
add some bag soil and maybe something to
help with the soil.
This was a shot from the green house
area. They mix flowers together, keeping
logs on each to see what grows well in
this growing zone, and what flowers
mixed with them do good.
All the flowers are watered from
this pond and all that runs off or from
rain goes back into the pond.
As I was leaving I walked
over to check out these lilies since
they were different than any I have
ever grown. Color looks to be a mix
of the orange and the yellow ones, I
always see but then they have the
lacy like pedals.
But in the first pic, I saw a little
critter with his head sticking out
from the inside of the bloom.
I don't think he was in the mood
for posing for pics.
The next stop, I am not sure
how it was on the list.
It was a new build home with some
landscaping around the house, but they
were actually starting their first
attempt to growing.
So basically, nothing else.
No plants, no veggies, no
flowers, nothing ....oh well.
But I did see this, out in
the distance of the long sprawled
out land. This was not on their property and
it was way off, but a camera with a
lens was able to get a pic.
A freak'n shed, on stilts.
I asked the folks running the
event about it, and was told it
was probably a deer stand.
See, hunting here in the south is
taken so seriously.
Next place, had a field of un-bloomed
sunflowers.
But, it had a barn venue.
It was beautiful.
Kriste was doing a selfie.
We were lucky, it was supposed
to be a rainy day, ALL DAY.
We managed to not get
into any of that.
Kriste, Patty and
Me.
Great day,
Pam
