Coincidence, School and Famous, Gaines, Mellons, Friends and Being a Bulldog
When I was working on the post from
awhile back about coincidence'
"Coincidence, Small World, Misty and Bathtime, Lily Chilling and Deck Life"
I knew
there were other things I had
shared with you folks that I
could not put my finger or my mind
on at the time....
but also going back in my
post, I can't locate the event.
Anyway, few yrs back I loaded the
plane to San Diego and sat next
to a couple. We exchanged a few
words here and there but it was not
till right before landing that the
coincidence came up.
The woman told me she had
been to Nashville to visit her son,
and her cousin. Her cousin owns a
well known bakery in Nashville. That
struck a voice in my head.
Then I asked her if her cousin
happened to be Beverly Edwards,
owner of Homestyle Bakery.
Well, that was her cousin.
I was floored cause Beverly's
daughter was a really good friend of
mine, who later opened Julia's
Homestyle in 2008.
I was maid of honor for Julie.
Small world.
Ever passing through
Nashville look the bakery up.
It is now owned and ran by
Beverly's granddaughter and has
been around since 75 when Beverly
opened it.
You can read about the start right
here.
If you venture a little down the
road to Murfreesboro, check out
Julia's. Keeping in mind however,
that Julia aka Julie, sold the bakery
a few yrs ago. It still carries the same
name though.
We lost the sweet loving Beverly
in 2023.
Today on FB I saw on a page where
it was asked if anyone you went
to school with ended up famous?
Made me think and yes, there
were a few folks.
Yep, Chris and Brad Gaines.
Chris played football for Maini
Dolphins, Phoenix Cardinals, and also played for
Canadas football league.
But, he played four yrs for
Vanderbilt.
It did not stop there,
Green Bay Packers and Seattle
Seahawks.
Those Gaines boys did not know
how to do things on the low,
they went wild open.
Brother to Chris, Brad,
played years for Vandy but also
for the Shreveport Pirates.
Not done yet, there was Greg.
Played for the Seahawks as well
as the Kansas City Chiefs.
All grads of DuPont High in
Hermitage Tn.
Also, a few yrs under me,
Dupont High,
Ken Melons.
Country music singer.
Songs..
go to school with me, but their kids did.
My best friend at the time, Dana,
her dad was a member of the
Nashville Edition and was on
Hee Haw and Hee Haw Honeys.
But a friend I played barbies with
on her front porch three doors up
was Jael Pruitt, daughter of
Jeanie Pruitt, singer of
Satin Sheets.
But let me also share,
DuPont produced some great
business folks for our area.
My brother being one.
Not someone the world
would have heard of, but...
Nashville knows the name.
I am proud to be a DuPont
High Bulldog even after all these years!
Hoping you enjoyed,
Pam
