Nashville State Capitol, Group Pic, The Elf
Morning, I am hoping
that you all had a great
and Merry Christmas.
It was great being with the family
and watching the greats on
Christmas day...
however, did I have the energy
to find that Christmas spirit?
No...
I kept a smile on my face and
pushed on.
But, actually glad it is over.
Now to move on...
1940
Our state capital. Wow,
seeing it like this is strange and
knowing that just 38 yrs. later,
it was thriving and I was working just
across the street from this
capital.
None of those wooden ransacked buildings
were left and there were high rise buildings
all around.
Most folks are not aware, esp
if you never visit Nashville or taken
a tour through the capitol, but in the
cold stone walls of our State Capitol
are the remains of two men.
When the powers that be, whomever
they were wanted to build the
state capitol Nashville,
they knew that they wanted a
big name architect to build it.
That is when they hired a man
by the name of William Strickland.
Apparently the building of our
Capitol was his crowing
achievement.
Strickland whom died five years
before the Capitol was finished,
was entombed in the northeast wall.
Also, Samuel Dold Morgan,
chairman of the State Building Commission,
was entombed in the southeast side of the
Capitol.
Both interior and exterior was built
of limestone. Greek revival style and
contains three floors.
Some inside pics.
I have always thought it as
an impressive building.
I used to work in the TN Towers,
which is catty corner across the street
from the Capitol. But what is cool, is
that when delivering pictures to the offices
of Reps. and Sentors, if the weather was bad,
I would dart across the street,
enter a set of doors and
proceed to the capitol via the
tunnel.
Yep, like most capitols, there
is a tunnel leading to it under
ground. But, that is nothing, to
my understanding, told to me
by telephone repair guys, the streets
of Nashville has an aray of tunnels
all under the streets of Nashville.
Here is what I found when looking
up tunnels under Nashville on
the internet.
The numerous tunnels under the
streets of my fair city rage from
historic (Prohibition, Civil War-era)
and functional (sewer, district energy)
to recently discovered ones and planned
future transit loops like Elon
Musk's proposed
Music City Loop, connecting
old stories of escape routes and
secret passage
o recently discovered ones and planned
future transit loops
like Elon Musk's proposed Music City
Loop, connecting
old stories of escape routes and secret passages
with modern infrastructure and new tech.
Interesting what is being built
under your feet on the streets
of Nashville..
I know, sloppy looking bunch in
this pic.
Amber wanted a Christmas pic,
and although everyone knows that we
do this, they don't even dress for the
event. LOL.
When I loaded up the pic I thought,
crap, I don't usually get off that bad with
having to level out the pic...then I realized
it was just that one end of folks. No
clue what the lean was all about!!
Several pics taken and this would have
to be the best. I have shot many pics of
big groups and NEVER have I had
several that would not even listen.
Left to right ~ Caleb (first born grandchild)
and his GF. The three children in the
front after Caleb and Triniti, is Alistur,
Evie and Felicity. The three adults behind
Alistur is Hannah (Evies mom), the silly
adult child learning over into Hannah is
Chandler aka Chan Man. Next to him is
Evie's dad and Chan Mans brother,
Big Brayden.
In the green shirt net to Hannah,
is Will, son in law, next to him is
my daughter Amber. Amber is holding
Kyler. He younger man next to Amber
and behind the Elf is Namath. Guy holding
the baby is Jesse, baby is Beckham and
behind them is Little Braden. The big
football player looking dude is DJ.
I think you all know who the elf is.
I did not tell anyone about
the elf outfit, although I have been
planning this day for almost a yr.
I just walked in wearing it.
No one commented, just like I
was wearing a pair of jeans and
and a shirt. When I mentioned that
Amber just said, nothing you do
surprises us.
When later on talking with
Cory on the phone he replied,
"mom, we know you".
Is it a good thing that they
were not surprised or is that bad?
Pam
