Forgotten, Old, Square, Coffee and Parada

The other day I mentioned that I
left the house early and
stayed gone for hours, with my
camera. Going to try and work on
my "Forgotten in Hickman Co."
album on FB. It is sort of overwhelming
that there is so much abandoned
property in this county.
The pic above is on
the main strip and I think it
maybe was once a store, or
a place to eat.

While I was riding around
the county seat of my county,
I saw this amazing home.

And this one.

Centerville has some really old
homes. The town was established in 1823.
and in 2020 the population
was 3,489. There is no growth in
this county, the county seat wants
to keep it that way.
The town square has more
vacant buildings then ones that have
something in them. Last time I was
there, there was a bakery, that did not
make it along with one restaurant that
I had eaten at before.
This could be one adorable square
if Hickman Co. would allow growth.
What they stick with is basically local
businesses that don't seem to make it.
With local business they seem
to charge a lot which sort of
keeps a lot of locals from
"shopping and eating local"!
It's a never -ending circle.

Matter of fact, county officials
are trying to pass a 5 acre limit
on building of homes. Course with that,
it sure would make it hard for builders
and agents like the guy I went through, and
the builder that built my place, would
be beating their heads against a wall.

I am not against growth here, I would
welcome it, BUT growth within
limits. So that things don't get
out of hand. Problem is, older
folks dying off, land being sold,
building is going to have
to happen.

Thinking that maybe one reason
businesses don't stay open is
in the square is due to hours.
And oping one day a week, how the
heck do they pay rent?

Or store fronts that look they
are used for storage.

But like most older squares,
it has old cool buildings.

Growth can be add and
kept in check, at least it should
be doable.

I did go in this
coffee shop for coffee and
a muffin.

There is this really cool thrift
store right on the corner
of the square that I always
go in. Pics for that later.

But, I do wish to share this with
you.
Amber saw this on FB.
Way to go mom! The photographer for the Hickman County Halloween Parade!

Yes, I did the write up and supplied
the pic but was surprised that
it went on FB almost as soon
as I sent it in.

Now to leave this thought with
you!

Back road in Centerville and I
don't even see this area being
busy at rush hour.
lol
A P for Pam..

We live in a small town too that didn't allow growth for a very long time. They do now and it's improving. There are businesses that are thriving here and that's a good thing. We're still small though.

I got stuck at the ice cream. A huge weakness for me is ice cream.

Have a fabulous day. Scritches to the kitties. ♥
