1773 Ship, 1896 Home, Wooden Woman, and House Finch

When I was in school, math
was not my
subject, disliked English also,
but I loved history.
So, things like this topic
below really grabs my attention.

In July 2010, during the cleanup and
 reconstruction efforts following the 2001
World Trade Center collapse, workers discovered a
32-foot section of a shipwreck buried 7
feet below the site’s foundation. Identified
as an 18th-century sloop, it originated from
Philadelphia around 1773, likely used for trade.

Dendrochronology and wood analysis
confirmed the ship’s white oak timbers
were felled in 1773, linking it to pre-Revolutionary
America. Preserved by the site’s muddy, oxygen-poor
environment, the vessel offered insights into colonial
 shipbuilding and Manhattan’s historical waterfront,
now displayed at the New York State Museum.

Folks, that is 237 years that the
ship was buried, a building was
constructed on top of it, and how
many folks walked across it in 237
years?
AMAZING!

I think I have stated before that
when on FB and I get on
the page, "for the love
of old homes" and I see an old
home posted as being there since the
late 1800's and some even older,
I am amazed.
Course we all know that
in the case of a home,
that it has been done,
touched up or maybe even
gutted within that time.

This home was built in 1896,
it is in
Meredith, New Hampshire
Says it is over 2400 sq foot and
my guess would be that the
bulk of that sq footage was
added. But some part of it
still stands from 1896.

But a ship, underground and
no one knew is just unbelievable
to me.

 On the street my daughter
works on stands this part
of an old tree.
What do you see?
Me~ Looks like the side of a
woman in a long dress, maybe
holding a child and looking
into the distance.

Thank you for all the cool
comments about the neat things
I find to photograph.
Me, on a regular day out in
the car, going anywhere,
I am always scanning for cool
things to shot.
What is better is when I have
my large camera with me and I
sat out to locate things to
shoot. Actually, my given thoughts
are that I should carry my big
camera with me every time
I go out.

Thursday morning, I look up
from blogging when I see two
fluffy, feathered babes sitting on
the porch rail looking at me.

Baby house finch.
I had house finch build
a new twice this year, in two
different places of the carport.
I have finch all over the
place and they can empty a feeder
fast!

BUT, once the rain moves
out and stays gone, I am
putting up my latest toy, bird feeder
with a camera on it.
YAY.

Are you a bird watcher?
can you name a bird when
you see it?
Do you feeder those critters?

Challenge today, step outside
and watch the birds.

Pam
