Yard Work, Gardening Gloves, Sunday Morn, Rocks, Trees and Bath Time

Like I said, I worked out
in the yard pretty much all day
on Saturday. Took a break
for a tad bit to visit with
my neighbor, Carrie. I took some
monkey grass out of a pot where i
stuffed it at the end of
season last yr. and planted it
going up one side of my
driveway, till I ran out.
Dug up a Braken fern growing
wild under my carport and replanted it under
the trees next to the carport,
planted some bulbs
I took out of a planter, raked up leaves
under trees, blew off the porch and filled a large pot
with dirt for my cypress vine and placed
that in front of the baby bed springs.

Saw
the hummingbird several times,

I blew up one pic so that
you could see the ruby throat.

Other birds
at their feeder have been wearing
the seeds out. It always amazes me
that they find feeders so fast.

Even saw the woodpecker in the
backyard, I normally only hear him.

Also, noticed the orange ribbon
showing my property line at the end of
the woods, meaning that there will be houses
built back there. At least there
will be the buffer of my back
lot of trees so they will
not be up on me.

I love my little arrangement
here. I pulled this piece
of limb from one of the
trees that I cut the honeysuckle
out of, the vine had made
its way into the wood of
the limb.
I saw something like that
on Pinterest and they
tied a wooden heart in the
center. I used a rock heart.
Plus, my heart looks like it
has a face.

My little Dogwood
tree has just a couple
of blooms on it.

A few weeks ago when I
worked out in the yard, gathering
branches and limbs, I developed
a rash. With me, it don't stop
there, the rash is gone but
all the itching as caused both
arms to be a mess.
But that will not happen
again, Sat. evening in
the mail came my gardening
gloves. I am so excited.
They are not supposed to tear,
rip and pick, they are UV
protected and they will protect
my arms. As you can see,
I need the help.

Of course, I had to have my
favorite leopard pattern and being
in purple was a plus.

Sunday morning, the girls
were so full of piss and vinegar, waking me
at four. I tried to sleep but
they kept on. Finally, I went and got my
coffee about five. I had my coffee in
bed, laptop, and tv and by this time,
the only cat around was the one
on my cup. The girls were off
to take their first morning nap.

Little BRATS!

I have noticed some really interesting
and strange things in this county.
I have always lived where maple trees
were all around. In the spring the
yards, walkways, etc were always
covered with maple tree
helicopters (seeds). Here, I have
not seen not one helicopter.
This area really lacks in
Maple Trees. However, we
have our share of cedar and pine
trees. That is not the only odd
thing I have noticed, our dirt is
a red color, somewhat like Georgia
clay. Where I came from the dirt
was brown and not packed.
There is not a shortage of rocks here,
every time it rains, more are
uncovered. Cutting this first time
for this yr was crazy, I had to raise
the level of cut cause I kept
hitting them. Difference in the rocks,
where I came from they were
just reg rocks and here they
are mudstone or sandstone. Also here,
you can't find the grayish brown flat
rocks I always used to stack for a
flower bed, They are generally
thick, chucky and not flat here.

See the ones around this flowerbed,
this is mudstone and sandstone rock.

This is what I am used.

I know this is prob
not unusual to most but this
is only an hour from where I
lived and grew up. Like being
in a totally different country to me.
Plus, things I never paid
attention to when I just
visited here. And maybe an
odd thing to most that I notice
it now.

I told you the above cause,
well, it was on my mind!
But you see, I wanted some
maple trees.
They are good shade trees
and grow fairly fast, this is
what my front yard needs.

Yesterday on my trip to
Columbia, I stopped at a
park just outside the city.
Look what I found..
Helicopters!
Maple tree copters, which
carry the seeds. I picked
these up so I could plant,
figured if nothing else
I would grow my own
trees! But on the way home,
I took a side trip
down the street from
my street and saw these
babies growing along
side the road.

Two (2) Red Maple
trees.
They came home with me.
Why don't I just go buy
some trees, cause it seems silly
to me to buy trees when they
are all around, well, maybe
not maple. But I am also trying
to get this yard looking good
on my own tight
purse strings.

The ground was still damp so I
was able to pull these
right up. HOWEVER, I am
tossing the shovel in the
car cause, same area, I
found Yucca plants I am going
back to get.

Now to leave you with
a smile of one of the girls taking
a bath.

I love my babes,
Pam

I hope your new purchases take care of your arms and hands. Looks painful.

Spring is a wonderful time to put color around your home.

I love your kitties. So precious.

Have a fabulous day, Pam. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to the girls. ♥

It may be a while before you get the shade from those baby maples. But it's a good plan. I hope your new neighbors aren't built too close and eventually are good people. How long before new houses, do you think?

Sorry about the rash

Don't be surprised if maple trees don't like your soil. It's just a thought, of course. As for me, I have grown to hate them because the many neighbors' trees make an awful mess and the seeds keep sprouting where they're not wanted. lol We have the best fur babies, don't we? :D Be well, my dear.
Yes, I remember those helicopters when I was little, they were fun. You sure have been busy.

Why buy something when you can get it for free. I would do the same thing. I have a maple in my front yard and I'm always pulling out little trees. I should start planting them in pots and selling them.

You are so industrious! Well done. And smart move with the arm protectors. Cute, too! I'm so glad you have those trees at the back!
Good idea to get the arm protectors.
How lovely to see hummingbirds visit.

All the best Jan
