Snow, Cold Temps, Rain, Old House, New House, and the Girls

Well hello winter!
Again.

The snow started around 8 or
so, did not do anything and stopped
soon after. I went to bed
early, could not sleep so I
read. Here it is 2:11am and I looked
out to this.

Isn't it so pretty laying there
before any prints are on
it? I love watching
it come down also.
But after the sneak peek at
spring that we had last week,
I am ready for winter to be over.

The kitty and the butterfly
on its nose was getting covered,
wind was blowing last night.

At 8 this morning, looking
out into the snowy
looking woods.

Yes, I did step out on
to the porch, barefoot to
measure the snow.
Looks to be 3 inches.
As normal I always
write Britney and Cory
a note in the snow since in
Southern Calif. they don't
get snow.

I can take the snow,
it's reports like this
that I am not crazy about.

According to one
weather station~
 Feels like temps Thursday morning
could be 5 to 10 below zero! BRR!

We are not going to see
temps above freezing till after
Sunday.

Of course, for the three to four
days leading up to the white
stuff, we had rain.
Even though the girls don't
go out much in the winter
months, they still feel it from
inside, so they have been
just laying around.
I think they both are wishing
for those warmer temps to
enjoy time on the deck.

Last week I took a ride
down to the next town. It was
the day after a big rainy day.
Actually, a couple of days of
rain. This lower part of my
road floods with the river down
that way.

About five years ago, our area of
TN., had
a lot of rain, flooding a neighboring town,
killing several people. It also flooded
this end of my road, which is a long
way from my house. Not really sure who
owns this older home but before that flood
five yrs ago, this home was used
as a rehab place where patients lived.
It apparently flooded, along with the
barns and the church across the street.
Since then, it all just sits empty.
The river travels to the right of
this house and sits on a big
spot of land.

It's a cool looking
house, even has an old
spinning wheel sitting out on
the porch. Such a shame.

Speaking of homes, this winter,
with the cold and the rain, and the
fact that it happens, my new home
started to settle. With the settling
the only issue I have really had
is the cracking of caulk. This is behind
my kitchen sink.

I have not jumped right in
with it, but I do a little
here and there. Not in a hurry,
but I am finding that not
being in a hurry is my normal.

This little tool is great
at its job. It scrapes out the
old caulk.
I have another tool that
came along with this one, it is
to help spread the caulk so that
you don't use your fingers.
Plus, I am not at all sure that
the right caulk was used. I am using
a silicone type so that it will be
flexible with the settling of the
house. If you decide to move to a
new home and think it comes
without issues, think again.
Also, keep in mind that issues
that are an issue to you, might
not be an issue to others.
I say that cause one of the biggest
things I am dealing with
probably would not bother any
one of you.
Lack of landscaping.
I want a yard full of
landscaping but the body
is not playing along with my
ideas, but you all know this
already. I know it, I know
I take on way too much in
the way of crafts, yard, and
other stuff, but I can't
seem to get my heart or my
head to understand.
Another issue with landscaping,
I like it, I want it, and I have
always just plopped things in
where I wanted them. Now I find
myself trying to decide what needs
to go where. Like in the way of
trees, I want to be careful of roots
growing into the pipes, don't
want to be doing a lot
of watering up next to the house,
to prevent water from seeping
through the cinder blocks, etcs.
I will prob not be a figure upon
this earth when a tree gets
big enough to cause issues
with the sewer pipes or
water seeping in through the
cinder blocks under the house, but
after dealing with both issues
the four yrs I lived at my
childhood home, I want to
be careful.

Last night before heading
to bed to read, I looked up and
saw these two sleeping.
Lily on the back of the couch,
her favorite spot and
Misty not far from me.

Are you in an area that got
snow yesterday?

Winter is hanging on. I'm so ready for spring. Beautiful shots.

Have a fabulous day and rest of the week. Scritches to the kitties and a hug to you. ♥

We did get quite a bit of snow. At least that taste of spring heated our concrete drive/local roadways enough they weren't too bad to traverse. As for landscaping, I could go on and on griping. lol The money and energy I wasted long ago trying to create a secluded garden space out back still irks me.

The unattractive wilderness bordering our rear lot not only destroyed my dream-filled efforts but has cost us thousands and thousands dollars more trying to keep our home from being covered by invasive vines and whatnot. ~sigh~ But I do enjoy the squirrel activity. :D Be well, my dear.

Burrrr. I love that you write them notes in the snow! That is fun. I have to use some of that stuff near the kitchen sink.
Goodness! Your first photograph ... definitely winter!

All the best Jan
Dang, Winter doesn't just want to give it up. The goofy groundhog was right!

Snow? Is this when people get snow? In all seriousness, we had our cold snap, and now is when it starts to warm up. We're getting 70s this week. Woo-hoo!

I don’t blame the furs for staying cozy in the house. Winter will be in the rear view mirror soon, I hope!

Everyone seems to be getting hit with those cold temps. I'm ready for spring too.
Too bad about all that flooding. That house thats now sitting empty looks like it was a pretty nice one.
The snow is beautiful, the cold, not so much. Good for you for taking on the home improvement project, that should keep you out of trouble!
