Happy New Year, Granny Carried Me, Winter is Coming, Window View, Paint Samples, Creative Changes

Here is your learning part of
my blog today....

Wow, how have I lived
65 years and never heard
this before?

Well, it appears that
maybe winter is going
to find us starting
Jan. 7, 2025.

The problem with that is,
Global Warming,
winter might find us,
but with that said,
it could be 80 degrees
the next day.
What I have noticed in
the last few years is
WIND.
Yes wind, it seems
like the last couple
of years we have days
of lots of wind. Course, usually
that is a sign of something
being pushed in,
rain or a cold front, either
way, my body feels what
is coming.

During the holiday season
I usually love the lights,
the decor and the music and
even though I put
my stuff up early, the mood
never hit me. I really
enjoyed family, friends
and food, the three F's, but
this yr., lights, music
and decor did not help.
With that said, I am glad
to have my window in my
view from the couch!!
The above is the mood
setting lighting of the window...
haha!

And a daytime shot.

I think I mentioned in
the reply to Liz on a comment
she put on my blog or maybe I
mentioned it in a post,
that it's time for me to
put my stamp, my touch,
my creative to my home.
I have been here a year and
I have not touched things
yet. I know, I bring more
work on myself, but I can't stop
the mind from going.

If you will look at the
two pics above you will
see on the side of the window
near the fireplace, are samples
of paint color!
Yep, it's going to have to
happen. You see, I don't like
gray, never have, and I
never got on the gray train
and it's headed out of style
now. YAY for that.
Although, the gray on my
walls seem to have somewhat of
a hint of taupe to them (I think
that is why I have been able to
live with these walls), they are
painted in flat paint.
I don't like flat paint!
I like eggshell or stain,
and I like beige color!

I know a pic of my samples will
not to the trick, it can help
give you an idea.
I tape them to the wall
to look at and study but I think
my mind is made up already.

left to right, top row
the first one has a touch
of yellow to it, I don't like it.
I do like antique white, the next one
on the wall, its warmer
than white and it is not
white. The last one in that
row is sort of what I am
leaning towards, or the middle
and last one on the
bottom row.
Get them mixed in
an eggshell which is not
glossy or have a shine, but
its better than flat cause you
can actually wipe a spot off
if you need to without the
paint coming off. I normally do
satin, but that gives more
shine. Both the above will
work in the kitchen and
bathrooms, which flat paint
should never be used in, and
was used in both here at the
house.

With the paint change I
also have thoughts on what
I want to do with this wall

Interesting wall, see the
outlets midway up?
I have the same outlets down
by the floor, giving me a choice
of hanging tv or not.
I have never been a fan of
the tv hanging, but this go
around, I am going to hang it.
Then I want shelves built
around the tv. I don't want
just shelves, I want them to
be irregular.

I don't want all the opening
to be the same size or shape.
Yeah, the creative side of me
is coming out.
I will hire this done since
my building skills are
that good enough to
make these.
Problem being, I can't decide
for sure if I want them even with
the coat closet door, or the
higher opening of the hall
entry way.

Or from the hall entry way
to over the coat closet
door.

And folks I think I have
a winner. After I drew it
out, I am leaning to
the shelves going
over the closet door,
and that is not the way
I was leaning at first.
I am a visual person so
drawing it out helped me
decide. Oh, and I want
to put my fake fireplace under
the TV.
Since I have black shelves
on the wall to the left
(you can see in the pics above),
I am wanting to stain my built
ins an ebony stain.
So, I will be painting
my fireplace in a black since
I want to put it under
the TV.

Now, to get the painting in the
living room done, I will hire
it done, and then get my
shelves made and the TV
hung.

What do you think of my
plans? Do you look at things
in your home and decide different
ways of making them yours?

Sounds like you are going to be busy this year. Looking forward to seeing how it all works out.

You are way more invested in changing decor than me. lol I look forward to seeing how things turn out and your opinion. Be well, my dear.

Considering your health problems over the last year, of course you haven't had the energy to change things up in your house yet. Piece by piece. Day by day. You'll get there. Besides, if you didn't have some project going (or in the planning stages) you wouldn't be content. You'd find something to change.
Those will be great climbing shelves for your girls Lily and Misty LOL! Happy New Year 2025 from all of us at Brian's Home!

I love how the lighting in the two photos of your lovely curtains makes them look either blue or maroon! And those shelves -- awesome. (Bolt them to the wall because someone is going to to to the top!)
Happy New Year Wishes.

All the best Jan
