Day 31- April 30, 2011 - AIR

Image
I would love to say that this is the way my day started.... but it did not. It started with me running to the bank, the gas station and then to pick up the McDonalds coffee (actually its more of a dessert)... Home to cut the grass and just after finishing that at 9:30 my long time friend came to put in my new air unit. This is the old inside and outside units. It's been a good unit...the inside part is original to the house which would make it 38 years old. The outside unit was installed 17 years ago. The same friend that put the new one in today put the old in that many years ago. I had just moved into my home when the air died. He was able to get one off the floor where he works, one that had been traded in for a bigger unit. It was already 7 years old. So it ran a good 23 years. And if you are adding the years up in your head as you read this then you know that the unit was actually 24 years old. But...it stopped cooling at the end of last year but with Barry's help I wa...

Day 30- April 29, 2011 - Feeding the babes

Image
Sitting on the deck looking out over the creek to this dead tree that is still standing I notice a Mom and Dad that keep taking turns feeding the little ones. One just flew in and landed on the branch as the other is coming out. As the one coming out flys off for more food the other entered and began the feeding.... then the other returned and out came the one inside. thats what I call working together. Thanks for stopping in,

Day 29 - April 28, 2011 - New Grand PUPPY

Image
This is Cheyenne......isn't she just adorable? She belongs to my grandson's. She is part Chihuahua and part Jack Russell. She loves to play and run. She was pad trained and will even go to the door and cry to go out and she is only about 8 weeks old. And the KING, my dog is not at all crazy about her. I am not sure he has seen one that little since he left his litter 4 yrs ago. Course he is not happy if he is not the center "one"... he is even jealous of the boys. Thanks for stopping in,

Day 28 - April 27, 2011 - Storms, Tornado's and Water

Image
Seems to be a weekly thing here in Tennessee to be under the gun with thunder storms, lighting, straight line winds and tornados... Its getting old. Next week will be the 1st anniversary of the Nashville floods, this includes the surrounding counties in TN. also.  1 year ago parts of TN. over a two day span got dumped on with between 13 to 20 inches of rain. Mass flooding, homes and business' lost. And peoples lives changed. The last two days have seemed like it might be a repeat but alas in the last 30 minutes I actually see sunlight through the trees. Maybe that is the end of it for a bit. Tornado warning and watches every few minutes, maybe tonight I can sleep for the first time in two nights. This is my road and this is what it looked like when I got home today. And this is looking off my front porch, past my car to the creek. The creek where it runs under the road. This shot is to show how close my drive is to the creek. And this is in the backyard of the house across th...

Day 24 - April 23, 2011 - Pretty In Purple

Image
This one is growing right off the front porch. So heavy that it is bending over. And these babies are next to the house between the drive and the house itself. I aquired these hosta about 22 years ago from the woman who watched my kids. They were planted at my other house and dug up and moved when I moved. Check out the KING being nosey to see what I could be looking at! Thanks for stopping in,

Day 22- April 21, 2011 - All its Beauty

Image
I have pretty much taken down all my flower beds over the past few years. No time to fool with them. I gave away so many day lillies and iris'. But somehow a few made it through. Starting to bloom. The next day after a rain. And a close up of my iris in all its beauty. Thanks for stopping by,

Day 21- April 20, 2011 - THE BEES and Spring

Image
About 15 years ago or so I had a shed delivered to my backyard. The first year was not an issue but every year after that I have been visited by this~ Sorry, I know its not a great shot but have you ever tried to photograph a flying bee that will not set down and light anywhere? These are carpenter bees. From what I have read they will not sting you but they are fairly good size and I have had them slam into me while trying to get around them. So yes, since they are carpenter bee's they love my shed. Every year they come back and either drill new holes or take back up in the old ones. This year though there is a difference. MORE of them. I usually have about 5 or 6 but this year it appears at any given time that there are around 20 or so. The really rough part about this is that they don't drill their holes in the bottom side or bottom back on the shed, no they have to do it in the bottom front, right at the doors.... I have gotten braver this year and I will just walk thr...

Day 20- April 19, 2011 - The KING Climbing a Tree

Image
For those that don't know the story of me and the squirrels I will give you the short version. 2.5 years ago, squirrels moved into my attic area and proceeded to dance for several nights above my head until I called pest control. But even with the noise above, my dog never made a sound. Never barked, never whined, never acted like anything was out of sorts. For the last two falls I have had a mouse venture into my home, and there again, the dog never barked, never whined and never acted like anything was out of sorts. This can be a bit of an issue for me since my dog is a Rat Terrior and his line was breed for hunting critters like the two I mentioned. But, he loves to chase birds in the yard and tonight on our walk through the yard, he chases a SQUIRREL up the tree. Seriously....give me a break.... I had to laugh cause not only did he chase it up there, he tried to climb the tree after him! He actually hung around for about 10 minutes trying to figure out how to get up there....

Day 19 - April 18, 2011- Home on Leave

Image
These are a few more pics that I took at the Easter Egg Hunt this past Sunday. This is Phillip. I have known him since the day he was born, he is the son of one of oldest and dearest friends, Barb. Phillip was born the month before my daughter Amber was born. So Phillip is 30 years old now and he is home on leave from serving in Afghanistan. This is his second tour of duty over seas. This is his wife Teya. I have only known Teya for about 5 years. And this is Riley, Teya and Phillips oldest daughter. And then there is meek and shy Ava. Such a beautiful family. I pray for Phillip daily for him to be safe and return to his family safe and sound. Thanks for stopping in,
