Rug Addiction, Door Decor, Flowers, Waffles, Me and the Open Air, Projects

I have just come in from
my 30 plus min. work in the yard.
It's hot but not like it was
over the weekend. It was 85 when
I was out but the humidity is
lower than its been and there
is a breeze.
So, with all that said I was able
to extend my working outside
for more than 30 mins.
I did not work out over
the weekend.
More on that later into
the post....why?
I need to go take some
pics.
HAHA

Anyway, before I went out
I did coffee on the porch.
My neighbor corrected me the
other day and said it is not
a screened in deck, which it
is, it is considered a porch.
Well, okay then.
What takes it from a deck to
a porch?
Carrie said this when I asked her,
"a porch is covered with a rood, often walls
and a screen. Porches roofs are part of the house
roof. It provides shelter and entrance to the house.
a deck is unopened, usually around a
pool in the backyard. No walls,
no roof."
What do you think?
Yes, I have two walls on my
PORCH,
screened, a door,
entrance to the house, roof is
tied in with the house.

Oh, so sorry, got side tracked!
Morning on the back porch, on
the daybed and when I slide off
the bed, I almost stepped on this
addition to my rug!

I have had my J on the
front door for months.
Used to I changed out
according to holiday but
I have been slacking on
that really badly.

But looking at the door
I wanted something
NEW,
COLORFUL,
BRIGHT,
and
FUN.
So yesterday evening,
I got my craft on.

I love it.
I have the stuff to do another
one for Amber. Her's will
have a dragonfly on it.

My sedum is so confused.

This is my
Autumn Joy
FALL sedum. It is a
rusty red sort of color.
It is not suppose to bloom
till
FALL!

This is the only one I made
it to this house with.
I used to have the pink
sedum, Stonecrop sedum to
be exact in Crystal Pink.

I really need to see about getting
some pink of it to replaces the
one I left behind.

Speaking of plants, I am collecting
seeds already.
This would be my pink
coneflowers.

This one looks like it tried
to grow and bloom again.

I will dead head my
blooms and let them dry out,
then I put them in
sandwich bags marked with
what they are on them and
BAM,
I will be ready for spring.

Ready for spring, I just wished
this would get ready for summer.

This is my Cypress Vine,
AKA Hummingbird vine and
by now, it should be blooming.
These were also planted the
day after tax day. The growth on
these are usually an inch a day.
What the hell happened here?

I know that I usually buy and plant
with reg top soil from the hardware
store but this I got this yr. just
don't seem to have what it
usually had in it. I had some
that grew tons of mushrooms,
but this has just sat there, growing slowly.
 Next yr I
will go for the cost of something
better.

The other evening I wanted
something sweet so I opened
a tube of cinnamon rolls only
I did not cook in the oven,
cooked them on my waffle maker.
My son called, asked me what
I was doing, I told him I
was making the waffles out
of cinnamon rolls.

For some reason, Cory that
that was funny.
He said, "Mom, you are
F'ing (his favorite word)
strange."
The whole time laughing
at me. I just told him
thank you!
Brat.

When I started this post it was
around 11 am on Monday.
It is now 11:45 pm on
Monday evening.
I stopped to go out to
take pics of my projects to
share and of course I did this
and that and I have been
all over the place.
Pic above was taken after I
did some work this morning.

The carport has been a problem.

The guys that put it up for the
company that built it put it
where I wanted it to go but I totally
did not consider that it would be
on a slant. A slant right into
the yard.
Please, excuse the mess. It takes
me a bit to get things done,
and with that, things sort of
get left out.

Anyway, the carport run off,
pours right into the area at the
end of the driveway.

To help with that I put the
rocks I used in front
of the porch last yr. in
this area. Yes, I took that area
I made last yr up. It just was not
working for me. Anyway, I reused the
rock.
The rock area goes from one side
of the driveway to the other, I was hoping
this would help hold some water coming
off the slanted carport back. It does except
on the downpour days.

The problem now is that the
water runs under the bigger border
rocks. To stop that I would need
to dig a trench and have the large
rocks part of the way into the ground.

This is the area that the water
runs to, between the deck steps
and the shed. Gets slick and I have
almost, but not yet, fallen.
I knew there has to be a fix.

The other day I shared the
pathway to the shed with you. I
still have a bit to do, which requires
a 30 min ride to Lowes.

Prob do that on Tuesday.
But I started the pathway to help
with the slick part of almost
busting my read before I
checked things out when it rained
and knew that I did not need
a pretty fancy band aid for the
issue, I need a fix.
Part of the fix after the rocks in
front of the driveway, I put in
some steps coming from the
driveway. I have one more
set of steps to add.

The steps and the path are
going to meet right at those bricks
in the bottom right corner.

The rest of the area in front
of the shed is going to have a fix
also. I am going to make a patio
with 16x16 step stones.

That leads right into another
question, step stones with gaps in
between them and add more pebbles,
or....but the stones together for a clean look.

haha..
I told you that I checked out the
area with the rain one day. Not only do I have
the issue of the slanted carport but also, coming
from the road on the other side of
the driveway, merging in with the
water from the carport and some going
around the shed. My fix for that is
concrete blocks.

Gotta pick up five my blocks
and toppers to go on them, this
will force the water coming from the
road and around the shed.
Oh and crap, forgot to tell you that
the biggest fix is going to come
together when I put gutters on
the end of the carport. On each side,
the gutters will go down into
water barrels and that is what I
will water the yard with.

Okay, if I have not confused
you enough, let;s go back to the
pathway.
I am adding odds and ends,
broken stones, stars I made and
a lock I had to have cut off the
door to under the house and a
metal thing I found in the
yard.

But....look at these rocks.

Just have to go and pick up
more pebbles and the glue
to hold it all down.

Thank you for following me around
and all over this post,
Pam

There's a lot going on in your world with construction, creative cooking, and more! That clothespin wreath is pretty cute! When do you rest?

Hi Pam, lots going on there!

Cinnamon bun waffles? I remember doing cake mix in the waffle iron. Fun.

Sounds like some good solutions to your rain runoff problems. Hopefully those take care of the problem. I'd say put your paver stones together, no gaps. I'm afraid with gaps you'd end up tripping over them at some inopportune time...
Hi sweet Misty! You sure are amazing with all you are getting done outside!

I would still probably call it a deck. To me, if it's made of wood it's a deck. A porch would be made of concrete. But then that's just my opinion.
The carport would probably bother me leaning like that. I tend to be a bit anal about straight lines and things being off balance.

Your accomplishments are astounding! I don't know how you do it; I'm a lazy bum most of the time. Take care, my dear.

I forgot to mention that I've considered getting a waffle maker. There's an inexpensive one available at Walmart according to one YouTube channel and they are way more versatile than most folks imagine. And you can tell Cory I said so. lol

Being totally different I would call your Porch a verandah!!!. Rainwater is a pain, we have it come straight off the road and down one side of our lawn and it floods one part of the vegetable garden. This year though we have had almost no rain, and the garden looks like a blow torch has been ove it!! The sedum os still in tight bud!
Sorry I have been a bit lapse, I fell in the garden the other day and broke a couple of ribs. Very painful to say the least of it. I have broken ribs before, but when I was younger and I am sure they were not as painful is these!!
Take care, Diane
